Introduction

Okay, you've figured out how to get on the internet and you see a couple of interesting sites on your screen. Great. Now what's next? Well surprise, there's tons and tons of stuff on the internet but you don't seem to be able to find anything you need. Well, here's a tip. Before you load your browser, plan on what you want to do. As ol' Bill says, Where do you want to go today?

Going places on the Superhighway

Once you've got a destination, you've got to find your path. There are a few ways to do this. One way is using guides like yahoo or GNN Navigator. These guides provide you with a logical route to the item you wish to find information on. For example, if you need info on IBM PC software, you might first click on Computers, then Software, then PC Software.

The second method is using search engines. These are programs that are written to find stuff for you on the internet. They are more powerful and specific in finding what you need. Popular search engines include Google and Lycos. These search engines will require you to key in a few significant words and they will find matches for you. These services are free.
