Are you ready..? We are the Sonata Sound Machine and we provide public address systems and mobile disco services. That means that if you throw a party, we'll come to your party and rock the house. The Sonata Sound Machine started in 1986. Initially, we provided music for private parties, and it was good fun. We started off with equipment that I had built on my electronics hobby. This included amplifiers, mixers, strobes, chasers and more. As time went by, the need for power led to building better equipment and more powerful amplifiers. Soon, I had a complete system with commercial professional power amplifiers (up to 240WRMS x2), mixers, microphones, speakers (Peavey), CD Players, tape players, lighting and a great selection of music. We could handle large functions with ease and added many satisfied customers to our list. Life was a party!
I had sold off most of the gear when I went to US in 1994 for studies. I only kept some of my favourite and essential equipment like my mics and power amplifiers. I've since returned to Malaysia, then moved again to Sydney to set up base. So if you're in the Sydney Western subarbs and need audio for any function, just give me a call!
If you need mobile music or a PA system, feel free to give me a call at 04 14797133 and I'll see if I can fit you in. No promises, but I'll try! Party on people...

Experience being
the best teacher, has guided me to my equipment selection and style. I generally
opt for very highly sensitive speakers, with high powers. This allows for
more sound with less power. The amplifiers are also high powered, not less
than 100WRMS per channel, typically 200WRMS per channel. The high powers
prevent overloads, contrary to what one might expect. A poor sound system sounds muddled and harsh when overdriven. The main reason is that when overdriven, the amplifier clips the signals and compresses the sound. This produces square waves, which are fed to the speaker. Square waves happen to sound very nasty and they eventually result in burnt speakers. I allow a very generous amount of headroom (overload margin) to give clear uncompressed sound. To prevent clipping, the microphone, pre-amplifier, mixer, amplifier and speaker all need to be capable of handling large transients without any overload. That is the key to a good PA system. Fortunately, many of these parameters can be controlled, as I make my own pre and power amplifiers. The use of good quality mics are also very crucial. The mics I use are excellent for PA systems. It took me days to search and find the sound I wanted, but the results were worth the while. The result is a sound system which will easily provide an excellent outdoor sound system which will cover an audience of 400 people in a venue of 6 basketball courts. The sound will travel much further, but it will diminish gradually. |
To date, I have done functions in:
This one is very subjective. This list will give you an idea on my criteria on how the function is priced:
Venue size, location, indoors/ outdoors, shape? Venue seating, stage arrangements? Number of people? Duration, start, end and standby time, date? Special requirements?
Our pricing is always reasonable, but we do need to charge enough to be cost effective. Feel free to call me for a quote, but be prepared with answers for the questions above.
Call Brian at 04 14797133 for a booking! Now in Sydney!
Typical pricing is as follows:
Small PA system: AUD200
Large PA system: AUD500
Mobile disco: AUD300 upward
